Come Out and Hide
04:28
|
|||
locked up in your mind
you’ve only got so much time
hold on to the time
come out and hide
fading away
this world you have turned away
what are you trying to say
come out and hide
sittin’ in the rain
your life’s walking through that door
don’t you want more
come out and hide
you’ve chosen a way
to keep out that noise
but, you’ve kept out all the joys
won’t you come out and hide
come out and hide
take a chance
sing out your song
make it clear, make it strong
come out and hide
locked up in your mind
you’ve only got so much time
hold on to that time
come out and hide
come out and hide
come out and hide
come out and hide

Is This Too Real For You
02:37
|
|||
you stare at me with your blank clown face on
you stare at me as if I’m lost
when it’s you who can’t find your heart
I’m just trying to tell you something
about the world I’m living in
but, you turn away before I can start
is this a little too real for you
is this a little too true for you
does it scare a little fear inside
does it remind you of all those feelings you’ve been trying to hide
where have you gone
is there anybody home
did you leave the house unattended
did you take your soul away on vacation
look inside my eyes
what do you see
is there anything going on
is this causing you a little frustration
is this a little too real for you
is this a little too true for you
does it scare a little fear inside
does it remind you of all those feelings you’ve been trying to hide
is this a little too real for you
is this a little too true for you
does it scare a little fear inside
does it remind you of all those feelings you’ve been trying to hide

Walls of Security
04:50
|
|||
when I look at the world
through my eyes
I comfort myself with promises
hidden within the walls
they understand
what kind of place this is
and the nights I spend
by myself
talking to trees and wandering
causes me to be afraid
of the sun
rising up in the morning
and the winters keep getting colder
maybe it’ll warm when I get older
father and son
walking around
playing with the stars and getting down
it’s just me and the moon
playing catch with reality
all this running around
within the walls of security
security
when I open my eyes
another day
over the horizon
I stand within my realm
of intensity
of my situation
I drive my windy roads
go away
seeking experience
but, whether I’m in the mountains
or the valleys
makes no difference
and the winters keep getting colder
maybe it’ll warm when I get older
father and son
walking around
playing with the stars and getting down
it’s just me and the moon
playing catch with reality
all this running around
within the walls of security
security
and when I’m driving back
through the night
I take the long way home
at times it seems so clear
black and white
why I travel alone
sometimes people steal
part of your soul
before you realize
and deep within my mind
there’s a stone
where my heart lies
and the winters keep getting colder
maybe it’ll warm when I get older
father and son
walking around
playing with the stars and getting down
it’s just me and the moon
playing catch with reality
all this running around
within the walls of security
security

The Actor
04:39
|
|||
a new morning settles in
he sees the sun looking in
puts on his face and walks out the door
he fixes his smile
walks with very strange style
and listens to the cameras rolling on
all the faces seem the same
seeking some fortune, maybe some fame
but, underneath the mask
hides a sad face
asking God with some sincerity
is it real or imaginary
exposing the film to the light
exposing the film to the light
he’s an actor on a stage
life to him is just another game
he’s just an actor on a stage
no one but himself is to blame
he lights a cigarette
closes his eyes to forget
but, the flash of the cameras hits him between the eyes
reality goes blind
a scream is heard from behind
takes a puff of nicotine to calm his nerves
dignity drives his car within
clears his throat, grimace turns to grin
gathers his composure to the world
and as he’d done so many times
he looked at the book to read his lines
but, the script was no longer used
but, the script was no longer used
he’s an actor on a stage
life to him is just another game
he’s just an actor on a stage
no one but himself is to blame
standing in the spotlight
words just wouldn’t come out right
his felt heavy and his heart felt cold
comedy and tragedy
searching for some identity
all the games just made him want to explode
so maybe he’d throw his life away
forget about the very next day
watch the credits roll down the movie screen
his life isn’t real, it’s just a dream
a ring of gold with no gleam
as he walks slowly off the stage
and as he walks slowly off the stage
his heart beats faster
running off the stage
he’s an actor on a stage
life to him is just another game
he’s just an actor on a stage
no one but himself is to blame
keep on, keep on running
keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on running
keep on, keep on, keep on running

Somebody's Song
04:16
|
|||
somebody’s knockin’
somebody wants to come in
somebody’s tired of the trials
nobody seems to win
somebody’s always waiting
somebody’s always at the door
and just when you think you’ve got everything
somebody still wants more
somebody’s calling
somebody’s on the line
somebody’s trying to tell you something
if you’ll only take the time
somebody’s always waiting
somebody’s always at the door
and just when you think you’ve got everything
somebody still wants more
somebody’s waiting
somebody wants someone to care
somebody’s looking for you
is anybody there
somebody’s always waiting
somebody’s always at the door
and just when you think you’ve got everything
somebody still wants more

Bookcovers
03:51
|
|||
if you think you can read me
like a book upon a shelf
I say how can you know
when I hardly know myself
look me up
find my definition
what does it say by my name
does it tell you what I see
does it tell you what I hear
does it tell you about my dreams
does it tell you about my fears
and I wonder if it tells you how I feel
when I stumble and I fall
maybe I have a story or two
that I can tell you
and if you don’t judge me
maybe you’ll see through
read between the lines
and you’ll discover
that you can’t judge a soul by it’s cover
so, if you think you can read me
like a book upon a shelf
I say if you want to know me
you better look within yourself
look yourself up
find the definition
what does it say by your name

you think everything’s funny
you can always find something to laugh about
you think everything’s funny
I’m just trying to figure out
you say you’re a friend to me
then how come when I’m feeling down
you still think everything’s funny
so funny
you say life’s a joke
well, then I guess I don’t get the punchline
you say let’s get drunk
but you know wine don’t make me feel fine
I know I should not be taken life so seriously
but, the last thing I need is for you to laugh at me
you say let’s get high
but, I say every up has its down
you’re always asking why
my smile wears a frown
well, maybe it’s because I think too much
maybe it’s because I’m mad
but, I think it’s just because
this world around me is getting pretty sad
and you, you still think everything’s funny
you can always fine something to laugh about
you think everything’s funny
I’m just trying to figure out
you say you’re a friend to me
then how come when I’m feeling down
you still think everything’s funny
everything’s funny to you
everything’s funny to you
everything’s funny to you
well, it ain’t that funny to me

Shelter from the Storm
04:09
|
|||
by the way
have I ever told you
or have I conveniently forgotten
here I sittin’ like a child
waiting at the halfway station
I just wish this layover would be over
and my ticket says home
is my next destination
and it would be if you were there
‘cause you wove me a blanket made with heaven
to keep my dreams safe and warm
and even if the sun don’t rise and fall over my shoulder
you give me shelter from the storm
by the way
have I ever told you
or have I been ruled by foolish pride
here I stand like a man
afraid to look like a boy
I’m think I’m just scared to feel
I just hope I never
let my fear turn the joy
into confusion over what is real
‘cause you wove me a blanket made with heaven
to keep my dreams safe and warm
and even if the sun don’t rise and fall over my shoulder
you give me shelter from the storm
‘cause you wove me a blanket made with heaven
to keep my dreams safe and warm
and even if the sun don’t rise and fall over my shoulder
you give me shelter from the storm
by the way
have I ever told you
have I ever told you

Have You Ever
05:18
|
|||
have you ever
seen the sunshine in the moonlight
have you ever
felt the motion in the still-life
have you ever
wondered to reason why
distance stands between our lives
‘cause if you’ve never noticed
these thoughts I see
if you’ve never, ever
I wonder have you ever known me
have you ever
seen the shape outside the shadow
have you ever
felt the wind outside the window
have you ever
heard the winter within my summer’s call
as my eyes turn and begin to fall
‘cause if you’ve never noticed
these thoughts I see
if you’ve never, ever
I wonder have you ever known me
have you ever
seen me in you
have you ever
felt me reaching through
have you ever
offered to let me hold your heart
while you piece back together
all the broken parts
‘cause if you’ve never noticed
these thoughts I see
if you’ve never, ever
I wonder have you ever
I wonder if you’ll ever know me
know me
know me

Baby Toys
05:12
|
|||
Sonny was angry
he said momma I don’t want to leave
box of crayons in hand
and his heart upon his sleeve
he said I don’t wanna go
where the big guys go
this playground here it’s all I know
momma, don’t make me go
it’s alright boy
it’s alright
it’s alright boy
it’s alright
it’s alright boy
play with your baby toys
Sonny grew older
played on the baseball team
two equals two and nothing’s what it seems
Sonny was to go into business
teachers told him so
you’ll make a lot of money kid
Sonny said no
no
it’s alright boy
it’s alright
it’s alright boy
it’s alright
it’s alright boy
play with your baby toys
Sonny went to college
read a book on philosophy
head spinnin’ in circles
he said please just let me be
machines said no
Sonny said why
isn’t that the way the world spins ‘round
machines said no
it’s time for you to be settling down
it’s alright boy
it’s alright
it’s alright boy
it’s alright
it’s alright boy
play with your baby toys
Sonny looked away
Sonny looked down
little box he had as a kid
that made his world go ‘round
up in the attic
where wildflowers grew
where his imagination ran wild
he opened up the box and there he stood
a young lost child
a young lost child
it’s alright boy
it’s alright
it’s alright boy
it’s alright
it’s alright boy
play with your baby toys
baby toys
baby toys
Sonny grew old
bought a house in New Mexico
sat by the fire
watched the light show
face full of wrinkles
walking across the miles
he looked into the flames
and smiled

8 O'clock
04:36
|
|||
it’s a grey evening
there’s a laughter in the sky
he wants to dance
he’s got a clover
hidden somewhere inside
with a name and number
it’s eight o’clock in the evening
time’s getting short, but a second’s still the same
I’m leaving town
going down
to a place I’ll be someday
and every time I try to close my eyes
all I see is rain
falling through my brain
falling through my brain
and so I’m going
and so I’m going
and so I’m going
going away
following my footprints
I think I’ve been here before
it’s like an aftershock before a war
pictures in a yearbook
a bunch of merry men
drawing on a table
sitting in a courtyard
with burning eyes
and every time I try to close my eyes
all I see is rain
falling through my brain
falling through my brain
and so I’m going
and so I’m going
and so I’m going
going away
so I’m going
going away
so I’m going
going away
